Domaine De Peretti Della Rocca
Jean-Baptiste De PerettiSelf-taught winemaker
Located in the Figari valley, nestled in the hamlet of Pruno, at the heart of the ancestral lands of the De Peretti Della Rocca family, Jean-Baptiste planted old Corsican grape varieties ten years ago whose wines express the authenticity and richness of the terroir.
Meeting a self-taught winemaker.
After a professional career in fashion, Jean-Baptiste decided to return to his roots.
JB de P : "In 2003, I inherited this land and created the estate as a farmer. Then in 2010, I built four traditional stone shepherd houses and quickly felt the desire to plant vines. The first hectares date back to 2013. Three more hectares followed in 2017, another three in 2019, and six more in 2022. In total, 15 hectares will eventually be cultivated. It takes about five years for vines to reach full production.
By surrounding myself with professionals and with the support of my cousin, the renowned winemaker Yves Canarelli, I was able to develop and build a unique estate with my own hands."
JB de P : "I am self-taught. Planting vines, watching them grow, vinifying the wine and then marketing it have become a true passion for me."
But like every winemaker, he is also a creator.
His wish was to work with old Corsican grape varieties such as Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu, Carcaghjollu and Vermentinu, which can also be blended with Grenache to bring color and structure.
JB de P : "With the support of the Wine Research Center (CRVI), and inspired by trends and my own tastes, I select the grape varieties specific to red, rosé and white wines, while also respecting the specifications of the AOP Figari appellation."
JB de P : "You never know in advance what the harvest will give you. After the harvest, we isolate each grape variety and plot in tanks and then see what we can create. It is only after several trials that we decide which direction to take. The artistic side of the profession lies in considering the grape variety, the terroir, the harvest, the vinification method and the blends."
Jean-Baptiste can rely on the expertise of his oenologist, Aurélie Pattachini, who is involved from the first day of the harvest through to vinification.
Today the wines Jules, Colette and Joséphine — named in tribute to his parents and his children — are the cuvées of the “Famidda De Peretti Della Rocca”.
After five years of production, the estate now counts seven cuvées, most of which are classified under the AOP Figari appellation… and perhaps soon an eighth.
The wines are mainly sold in Corsica but are also beginning to reach the mainland. Soon they will be exported abroad thanks to the estate’s expansion.
This family story goes beyond the vineyards.
The next generation is already preparing the future. Jules, Jean-Baptiste’s son, is training in Burgundy in order to work alongside his father. His daughter Colette, who is studying journalism, closely follows everything related to wine and is highly involved in the estate’s projects.
The estate also offers wine tourism experiences, with accommodation in the four shepherd houses with private pools, as well as hospitality in the main house.
JB de P : "Our guests come to taste the wines, relax and discover Corsica. We also have a small table serving local products, managed by one of my cousins for the hotel and a few outside guests. Wine helps people discover the accommodation, and the accommodation helps people discover the wine."
In total, around ten people work on the estate.
Expanding the vineyard and creating a cellar capable of accommodating the future 15 hectares of vines are among the next projects.
Jean-Baptiste also plans to develop events at the estate. Soon, weddings will be able to take place within the hotel property — a new destination that will undoubtedly become part of many future couples’ address books.
Transmission, conviviality, creativity and terroir are the guiding principles of this winemaker who today produces wines that are both powerful and refined, with a very feminine character. A passionate winemaker to watch…
You must let instinct and nature take their course
There are often doubts
The same grape variety planted in Bonifacio and here will never produce the same harvest.
I am deeply attached to my land
Wine allows people to discover the accommodations, and the accommodations help people discover the vineyard.
A very feminine wine
