Julien Simi – A Passionate Architect

An extensive educational background

Now 33 years old, Julien Simi, an architect by profession, returned to work in Porto-Vecchio three years ago after an atypical educational journey. He first trained in Corte, where he discovered the many trades of the construction industry, before turning toward architecture.

A first year in Paris, four years in Switzerland, then a return to Paris allowed him to graduate in both countries and gain a broader vision of the profession — from the construction of a tower to that of a villa, from a highly creative approach to a very structured consideration of constraints and innovation.

Drawing on these experiences, he describes himself as “an all-terrain architect who always seeks to reconcile his perception of a project with the client’s point of view and expectations, rather than imposing his creation at all costs.”

JS: “When I approach a project, I must listen, guide, but also sometimes propose something different that can be adjusted. I try to help the client understand the capacity for their home to evolve over the years if they want to enjoy it over the long term.”

Back to his roots

JS: “After many years on the mainland and abroad, it became essential for me to be close to my family.”

In Southern Corsica, whereas a few years ago the focus was mainly on new construction, today it is mostly older houses from the 1970s and 1980s that are purchased to be renovated and brought up to date. This challenge suits him perfectly.

JS: “The challenge today, while respecting the legacy of those who came before us, is to adapt these existing spaces to contemporary lifestyles.”

His guiding principle is the preservation of history, the environment, and the beauty of the sites.

For now, Julien Simi prefers to work independently so he can remain fully available to his clients, while still exchanging ideas with fellow architects and staying attentive to developments emerging in Corsica and elsewhere.

JS: “The first phase of the profession is the pencil — the creative work with the client — followed by the implementation, with a network of different tradespeople whose work we coordinate somewhat like a conductor so that, for every project, everyone plays the same score.”

Architecture — a profession driven by passion…

Favor quality over quantity
Simple architecture with strong lines
Contemporary projects always rooted in local materials
“Being an architect means being at once an artist, a craftsman, a technician, and a psychologist.”
